WHY IS A HMO INSPECTION REQUIRED?
Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs) are often viewed as carrying a higher risk in terms of health and safety compared to single-family dwellings. This means these dwellings are more regulated to ensure a safe habitable environment.
SSG offers HMO inspections for properties that have a mandatory licence granted by the local authority. HMO that have 5 or more people that form 2 separate households require mandatory licensing. Our HMO inspections start from £250 in Greater Manchester and Yorkshire.
The HMO property inspection report for immigration is a supporting document for certain types of entry clearance applications. This is the only document that proves to the Entry Clearance Officer an independent assessment of the accommodation has taken place and the property is suitable for habitation.
In order to pass the inspection, the HMO must be maintained to a satisfactory state of repair, be free from any Category 1 hazards, and must not be overcrowded.
What we require to do the inspection
The surveyor will need to inspect all areas of the HMO. Therefore, access must be available to all of the rooms. We also require the following documentation:
✔ Copy of the Mandatory Licence.
✔ Tenancy Agreement
✔ Gas Safety Certificate
Without the above documentation, we cannot do the inspection.
